Video: Zaha Hadid and Amman's New Performing Art Center
Watch the world's most famous architect describe the inspiration behind her award-winning design for the King Abdullah II Center for Art and Culture.

Our cover story this month describes Zaha Hadid's design for a new performing arts center in the Balad -- and explains why we think it's such a brilliant piece of architecture. Hadid visited Amman in February to sign an agreement to produce working plans to actually build the structure.
In this video, you can see the 3D renderings of how the art center might look, and watch Zaha talk about how she designed the structure.

With all due respect to the great architect, maybe she can learn a bit from the modesty and more sensitive approach of Bernard Tschumi's design for the New Acropolis Museum, which worked with the context. From the video, the proposed design for the King Abdullah II Center for Art and Culture is simply atrocious, it is imposing, has no connection with its surroundings, and ah, yes, Ms. Hadid does not care much about the environment, and her response to water shortage in Jordan is a building that does not respond to the sensitive ecology by going the extra mile to attempt to be "green", but a design that just looks like a rock?? Come on! Let alone the horrible scale, compared to the surroundings, the design that obviously prioritizes the car (judging by the "highways" surrounding it)... How utterly sad if such a design will be implemented.
